Privacy Policy
The short version: what you capture stays on your Mac. The app has no accounts, no analytics and no tracking. Below is everything that does use the network, so you can check for yourself.

Who we are
Screenshot Text is made by PLOREC LTD (company number 10527882, England and Wales), which is the data controller for the limited personal data described here. You can reach us on X at @current_user_1.
The app
Your captures never leave your Mac.When you select a region of the screen, the text is recognised on-device using Apple's Vision framework. If you turn on AI cleanup, that runs on a local model on your Mac too. Images and text are not uploaded, stored by us, or used to train anything. The app contains no analytics, telemetry or crash reporting, and it has no account.
The app connects to the internet in exactly these cases:
- Update check. It fetches a small file (screenshottext.com/version.json) to see whether a newer version exists. Like any web request, this reveals your IP address and basic request details to our hosting provider, Vercel. Nothing about you or your captures is sent.
- AI model download (optional). If you enable AI cleanup, the app downloads the open-source Qwen2.5-Coder model once from Hugging Face. That download is subject to Hugging Face's privacy policy. After that, the model runs offline.
- Links you click.Buttons such as “Buy” or “Website” open pages in your browser.
License keys are checked offline. Your key is verified with cryptography inside the app; it is never sent anywhere to activate.
The app needs macOS's Screen Recording permission because that is how any app reads pixels on screen. It only reads the region you select, when you select it. Nothing is recorded, streamed or saved.
This website
- Analytics. We use Vercel Web Analytics to count page views, downloads and clicks on Buy buttons. It is cookieless and reports aggregated numbers; it does not identify you or follow you across sites.
- Downloads. When you click Download, we log the event with the referring page and your browser's user agent, so we can count downloads and see where they come from.
- Hosting. The site is hosted on Vercel, whose servers keep standard request logs (such as IP address and time) for security and operations.
- Cookies.This site doesn't set cookies.
Buying a license
Payments are handled by Stripeon Stripe's own checkout page; we never see or store your card details. Stripe shares with us what we need to issue your license: your email address, name, billing country, and the purchase amount and date. We use your email address to send your license key, via our email provider Resend, and to help you if you lose it or ask for support. We don't send marketing emails and we don't sell or share your data.
We keep purchase records for as long as UK tax and accounting law requires (currently six years), so we can reissue keys and meet our legal obligations. Our lawful bases are performing our contract with you (issuing and supporting your license) and legal obligation (keeping accounting records).
Where data is processed
Stripe, Vercel and Resend may process data outside the UK, including in the United States. Each provides safeguards recognised under UK data protection law, such as standard contractual clauses.
Your rights
Under UK data protection law you can ask us for a copy of the personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or object to how we use it. Contact us on X at @current_user_1and we'll respond within one month. If you're unhappy with how we handle your data, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office.
Children
Screenshot Text isn't aimed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If we change this policy, we'll update it here and change the date at the top.
